Hi, my name is Melanie, I’m 38, and I still get pimples.

Having had clear skin as a teen, I never thought that I’d be in my late 30s battling breakouts. But here we are. I’m particularly prone to annoying blemishes that crop up on my upper back and chest acne. I know exactly, why, too. Throughout my career as a beauty writer, I’ve written countless stories about body bumps and acne. Prevention rule number one: Never sit around in sweaty workout clothes. What do I do every day? Correct, sit around in sweaty workout clothes.

In my defense, I’m a working mom with 13-month-old twins—there is no time for costume changes. I always exercise first thing in the morning, and as much as I’d love to be the girlie who showers right after and gets ready before starting her day, that’s just not in the cards. Instead, I go straight from workout to work mode, finally showering before bed. I’ve also recently adopted a new sauna habit—cue even more lingering sweat. Occasionally, I’ll use a body wipe or swipe on some face toner along the breakout-prone spots on my bod, but that’s about it.

Point being, while I really should be altering some of my bad habits to prevent these pesky pimples, I try to treat them instead. So when I got the opportunity to try the new Hero Cosmetics Mighty Patch Body (which launched today) I couldn’t say ‘yes’ fast enough.

What Is The Hero Cosmetics Mighty Patch Body?

In short, it’s a jumbo-sized version of the brand’s fan-favorite Mighty Patch, a hydrocolloid pimple patch meant for the face. Whereas the OG is small and round , this newbie is a large rectangle, about 3.5 x 2.5 inches, intended to cover larger areas on your back and chest. The corners are notched so that it adheres well and stays put.

Just like its predecessor, the Mighty Patch Body is made of medical-grade hydrocolloid, a gel-like substance originally used for wound-healing. It’s the go-to material for a majority of the pimple patches out there because it helps pull out and absorb gunk from whitehead-type blemishes. And, because these patches cover the skin, they also ensure you don’t pick or pop, which can delay healing.

Their other major benefit? Hydrocolloid is completely non-irritating and safe for all skin types, even super sensitive. That’s a huge draw for me. Not only is my skin very reactive, I’m also allergic to benzoyl peroxide, a very common ingredient in at-home skincare routines for acne, which always limits my treatment options.

How I Used The Hero Cosmetics Mighty Patch Body

Per the product directions, you’re supposed to apply the patch on clean, dry skin and wear it for six to eight hours. I decided to go a bit rogue and leave it on overnight. The patch has a clear backing that was easy to peel off, although it was a little harder handle the patch itself. It’s sticky and gel-like; I found the corners would roll and bunch up if I wasn’t careful. Still, once I placed it onto my trouble spot—I chose to target my chest pimples, which crop up right in my decolletage and cleavage areas—it adhered perfectly and felt totally comfortable. I almost immediately forgot it was there.

The next morning, the patch was in the exact same spot (this despite the fact that I've been told I move around a ton while I snooze and tend to sleep on my stomach). I removed it, expecting to see completely clear skin. Eh, not so much. There wasn’t much of a change after just one use. But since using this required a ridiculously minimal amount of effort—and I very well know that skincare quick fixes aren’t really a thing—I kept trying it. (Also worth noting: Irritation was a non-issue. I only experienced a tiny bit of redness after removing the patch, which dissipated in less than a minute.)

One box comes with four patches; I used one every few nights over the course of about two weeks. And that’s when I noticed a change. It was subtle, for sure, but I could tell that the pimples were less red and prominent. I first realized the patches were working when I put on a V-neck sweater and didn’t immediately grab concealer for my chest.

In my book, that's a huge win.

Bottom Line: Is the Hero Cosmetics Mighty Patch Body Worth It?

My personal-meets-professional opinion? Yes. Given that the price is reasonable ($14.99 for four) and that it’s so non-irritating, I think this is absolutely worth trying if you’re dealing with body acne. It’s very easy to use and work into your routine, and definitely lives up to the promise of fitting comfortably and adhering well. Plus, if your body breakouts are more inflamed and whitehead-esque than mine, you may even see more of an improvement, sooner.

For the purposes of this review, I stopped using any additional body acne treatments while trying it. But I do think that paired with other options, think a salicylic acid body wash or exfoliating peel pads, the Mighty Patch Body would be even more effective.

That’s how I plan to start using it…and maybe 2025 will even be the year that I finally start changing out of my sweaty workout clothes.
