Apologies if there's a topic on this (looked 2 pages and didn't see one), but why would the top colleges, going forward, do any deal with Nike when Nike is basically Oregon's Collective for NIL money? Those colleges would be basically funding the Nike NIL contributions to Oregon. Per Reddit..."Out of the 130 schools, 52.3% (68 universities) of them are primarily sponsored by Nike.Sep 23, 2022".

As I posted in the other thread because OSU is getting 252 million dollar over a 15 year period to contract with them.

Thanks 24...A good reason indeed. Nike, to pay that much, must think it's worth the return. However, and I'm no corporate attorney, I would quickly consider renegotiating that deal, leveraging the conflict of interest AND I would ask Nike to immediately stop funding Oregon's NIL. I would begin talking to Nike's best competition and I would be talking to all the major college football ADs who also have a deal with Nike about this conflict of interest.

It’s all good. We’ve had a couple of these threads the last week so it’s something that’s on peoples minds.

I believe OSU has the largest contract in the country for a school with Nike.

Before we added Oregon, I had argued the B1G should make a deal with Under Armor instead. The founder of Under Armor is a MD grad I think. I argued we should keep it in-house. Now with Oregon in the B1G, that argument goes away.

I think an argument could be made against Nike for the conflict of interest. Given that all of these programs are ultimately their customers. But I think the issue may be that "Nike", the corporation, may not be involved in NIL. Rather, Phil Knight might be more involved. But I would like to know the details. Because if it is Nike, them actively recruiting against their own customers is problematic.

What post from this thread made you think people were worried? OP was talking about the conflict of interests.

You can say it’s just Phil.. but Phil is Nike .. this is why regulations will come sooner than later .. you can have billionaires changing the face of football and it won’t last long at rates like that. Schools like Oregon should have to earn their status .. not just be given it .. their *****-ty lack luster history shoo be able to be erased with a check-book

I literally do not understand the sentiment that Nike is the one paying for this. Phil Knight, a very retired UO alum who founded the company and no longer makes decisions for the company who is also old as *****, is the one spending all the money. I keep seeing this comment all over the place not just this board and I don’t get it. Maybe ******* journalists with click bait headlines, I don’t know the root of it.

I agree. Phil Knight is not Nike. Phil is old and will die in the near future and Nike will not.

However, It is possible he could set up a trust to fund Oregon NIL in perpetuity.

The one thing i kind of don't understand is why people are focusing on Nike in regards to NIL. (Besides there being conflict of interest)

I have to believe Texas oil money is funding the longhorns. John Ruiz is funding the hurricanes. OSU probably has huge donors.

Why has Oregon been singled out recently due to NIL?

Because two players that we offered and wanted, chose Oregon.

So all hell breaks loose and there’s a massive overreaction.

This is a bad take so schools shouldn’t be allowed to be good cause they weren’t in the past. Also Oregon has been one of the most consistent programs the last 20 years or so to these kids coming up they have always had a top program.

People like to generalize this board and say “we” when it’s usually just a few miserable bad apples.

Besides the fact Nike gives OSU a dump truck full of money. Who are you going to get uniforms and other equipment from? Adidas? F no! Under Armour? Meh. Jordan? No thanks.
